The Senior Adult Ministry program is a vital part of
Arlington Heights United Methodist
Church, with new and expanding opportunities for involvement.
Children leave the nest.
Youth enters adulthood.
A spouse departs. Maturity mellows into golden years.
These are times when the heartbeat quickens, often with a certain longing.
Who can minister to the lonely and longing heart better than a caring church?
A church that is able to embrace the unique needs of it's family.
A church that can both teach and learn from itself.
We embrace "SAM"
and learn together!
This growing ministry provides Christ-centered activities addressing the spiritual, social and educational needs of men and women in the
"second half of
life". This rapidly growing segment of our
faith community includes people with adult children, retirees, grandparents, and widows/widowers, all who desire be productive servants of Christ.
Home Buddies
The
purpose of "S.A.M." is to
assist our church in ministering to our
senior adults both inactive and
active. Our inactive members, called
"Home Buddies", are those
unable to attend church, living at home,
in assisted living, or in nursing
homes. We visit them on a regular
basis, call them, and send them
cards.
During the
year the children's' classes make and send
them Valentines, volunteers take Easter
Lillies or flowers, and Poinsettias at
Christmas time. Young mothers and
their children participate in taking
little surprises to them during "The
Twelve Days of Christmas", which
brings much joy to all. Doing these
things helps to reassure our "Home
Buddies" that they are still an
important part in the life of our Faith
Community. Throughout the year we
have several social, educational, and
health events which benefit all our senior
adults.

Young@Heart
Food, fun and fellowship are the themes of
the "Heritage Hour" group of Senior
Adults, meeting on Wednesday
from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. Participants enjoy playing a variety of games before enjoying a meal together.
They celebrate birthdays monthly.
